Node.js, at least from my understanding, was designed to be great at transporting small bits of information around the internet very quickly, and in real-time. Server-side events, instant messaging apps, real-time games, and collaboration tools are all great example of this. Take for example Trello. Trello is a real-time collaboration app that leverages Socket.io and Node.js to enable real-time propagation of events and state-changes between clients.

Announcing my third e-book "Perl One-Liners Explained"

Hello ladies and gentlemen! I'm happy to announce my 3rd e-book called "Perl One-Liners Explained." This book is based on the "Famous Perl One-Liners Explained" article series that I wrote over the last 3 years and that has been read over 500,000 times! I went through all the one-liners in the article series, improved explanations, fixed mistakes and typos, added a bunch of new one-liners, added an introduction to Perl one-liners and a new chapter on Perl's special variables.

Apple and Motorola are at it again, and still in Germany. Today, the Mannheim Regional Court ruled in favor of Motorola, issuing a permanent injunction against Cupertino's Cloud based services and any device that uses them. Apple has pulled several iPhone models from their German online store, though it said they are still available in brick-and-mortar locations. Apple also announced that it intends to appeal the ruling on iCloud.

I love me some Scala. Actually, since it’s now my day job, I love it all the time. It combines the short, expressiveness that I prized in Python with a rich library base (thanks Java) and the compiler checking that I have come to depend upon in a statically typed language. I don’t care what some people say.

In an attempt to tackle the inefficient complexity of its current template system, Wikipedia will be adopting the Lua scripting language. Known most for its use in videogame scripting, particularly World of Warcraft, Lua is lightweight and designed for easy integration into existing applications. The transition is expected to begin after the release of MediaWiki 1.19, possibly in May.
