The project manager of Jython announced
he is quitting his job at Sun. Frank Wierzbicki helped design Jython,
the Java implementation of Python, for five years while he worked at
Sun. This departure comes just four months after two JRuby developers left Sun, citing the uncertainty surrounding the Oracle acquisition as their reason.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/javalobby/frontpage/~4/Q98hoBh2wyU" height="1" width="1"/>

The buzz surrounding Motorola's Droid, one of the most anticipated handsets to date, reached a deafening peak today. In an effort to compete with the iPhone, Motorola joined forces with Google and Verizon. Will the 'Force' be strong enough in the Droid? Well, since Motorola has to pay a fee to Lucasfilm just to use the term &quot;Droid&quot;, they better get some 'Force' out of the deal. ...<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/javalobby/frontpage/~4/cUzh24GyYus" height="1" width="1"/>

A lot has been happening at Apache recently. The Subversion project joined the list of Apache projects and the White House has begun using Drupal, which is based on Apache's Lucene text search engine. Apache also celebrated its 10 year anniversary at ApacheCon2009. However, the biggest news was probably the timeframe announcement for Apache Tomcat version 7. According to Jim Jagielski,...<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/javalobby/frontpage/~4/A75-Yy6JEAo" height="1" width="1"/>

breed of applications that are operating in the social context of their
owners. Google Wave is just the first well known application doing
other-than-chatting things on top of XMPP.References

So I finally got some time to sit down and write, after being knee
deep in work the past month or two. And without a doubt, I wanted to
write about what has been heckling and annoying me over the past month.
I am an ardent defender of Java as a good language, especially
defending it from Misko day in and day out, but even I will agree that
it does suck at times. So today, Java, the gloves are...<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/javalobby/frontpage/~4/WWKzUJoOdH0" height="1" width="1"/>

Testing GWT Libraries With Selenium and Maven

On Tuesday, I wrote about Running Hosted Mode in GWT Libraries.
Today I added an additional module to our project to run Selenium tests
against our GWT library. In the process, I discovered some things I
needed to modify in my GWT library's pom.xml.

The EU could issue a formal objection to the Oracle-Sun deal within the next few days according to a Financial Times report. Just a few weeks ago, the EU's Competition Commissioner reprimanded Oracle for making no effort to address concerns about owning MySQL, the worlds fastest growing open source database. Since Oracle hasn't budged on its intentions to keep MySQL as part of the deal, the...<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/javalobby/frontpage/~4/u1TchAfEywA" height="1" width="1"/>

Writing a RESTful and Comet Based PubSub Application Using Atmosphere in Less Than 10 Lines

Writing a publisher/subscriber (PubSub) is quite simple with Atmosphere using the atmosphere-jersey module. The main idea here is to use Comet for suspending the response when a client subscribe to a topic, and use REST for publishing messages to the those suspended responses.
